An assessment was undertaken to comply with a planning condition for a single house site in the townland of Derreennamucklagh, in the parish of Kilcrohane, Sneem. The site of an enclosure and possible souterrain is located in the north-eastern portion of the development site. The site is shown on the first edition OS map as a circular enclosure, while on the second edition it is recorded as ‘Cave’. No trace of the enclosure could be discerned. The development site is located on an outcrop of limestone bedrock.
Three test-trenches were excavated on the footprint of the proposed foundations of the house site, septic tank and entrance. No archaeological stratigraphy or artefacts were recorded.
