Pre-development testing took place at the site of a proposed dwelling-house with septic tank at Cullenagh Lower, Beaufort, Killarney. The site is adjacent to a monument, Lisheenroe, marked as a circular enclosure on the first edition OS map, but as ‘site of’ only on the second. No surface trace of the monument is now visible, and a grotto has been built in the area of the site.
Six trenches were opened by machine. They varied between 6m and 20m in length, were 1m wide and were dug to an average depth of 0.5m. Nothing of archaeological significance was found in any of the trenches.
