Pre-development testing of the site of a proposed dwelling-house with septic tank was carried out on 17 September 2001 at Moycullen townland, Co. Galway. The proposed development is within the constraint zone of Moycullen Graveyard and Church. The site was in a field of silage, immediately west of the church and graveyard.
Five trial-trenches were excavated. They measured 10–20.5m in length, 1–1.3m in width and 0.4–1.4m in depth.
The stratigraphy revealed consisted of natural sands and gravels, natural subsoil and boulder clay, below the topsoil. This represented natural undisturbed stratigraphy. No artefacts were recovered during testing.
