Test-excavation was undertaken on the site of a proposed new dwelling-house at Gortnahorna, Co. Galway on 10 February 2001. The development site contains a rath, which is named ‘Lisnavin’ on Ordnance Survey maps. The monument is situated on a ridge in the western part of the development site, 20m from the proposed house site.
Testing comprised the mechanical excavation of two 55m-long trenches on the footprint of the proposed dwelling and associated service runs. No archaeological material was discovered during testing or subsequent monitoring of topsoil removal on the route of the proposed access road.
