This project involved the monitoring of ground disturbance associated with a large commercial, residential, retail and car-parking development at the Fairgreen in Galway city. The site lies just outside and to the east of the zone of archaeological potential as identified in the Urban Archaeological Survey of County Galway. Pre-development testing had been undertaken at the site by Anne Connolly in 1999, with no finds or deposits of archaeological interest being uncovered (Excavations 1999, No. 292).

No artefacts or features of archaeological significance were found during monitoring of ground disturbance. The stratigraphy uncovered was similar to that revealed during the pre-development testing. Much of the area developed had been disturbed previously by the construction of an abattoir, which was demolished prior to the commencement of this development. Foundation piles associated with the abattoir were found throughout the site. The development involved the removal of ground material for a depth of 8–10m, with natural being reached at a depth of 2–2.5m.
