Pre-development testing was undertaken at 32 Eyre Street, subsequent to the demolition of a dwelling. The site lies in the east of the zone of archaeological potential as identified in the Urban Archaeological Survey of County Galway. No worked stone or possible medieval fragments were encountered in the course of monitoring the demolition.
Three trenches were mechanically excavated in the course of testing. In Trench A, a dark brown subsoil, with occasional stone inclusions, extended the length of the trench and was 0.2–0.35m in depth; it overlay the grey natural layer. In Trenches B and C, a light brown subsoil with occasional stone overlay a light grey, stony, natural layer. It was apparent from the testing that the natural level was found at a greater depth in the southern end of the site, as was evident in both Trenches B and C. Nothing of archaeological significance was revealed in the trenches.
