Monitoring of the Rogerstown/Brendanstown Group Water Scheme in the vicinity of Clonfert, Co. Galway, was carried out over a three-week period between 25 April and 10 May 2001.
Monitoring, as recommended by Dúchas, required the use of a metal detector to investigate the excavated trench fill.
The scheme involved the relaying and upgrading of a 100mm pipe for 2350m along the roadside in a trench measuring 1.2m deep by 0.45m wide.
Excavation exposed a modern backfill and natural clay below a tarmac and hard-core layer. Nothing of an archaeological nature was noted.
