Monitoring of this development, in the townland of Carheennascovoge, Athenry, was necessitated owing to its proximity to an earthwork (SMR 96:45). It was recommended that monitoring of the excavation of foundation trenches for the construction of an extension to a dwelling-house be carried out (trenches were mechanically excavated). The layers present in the trenches consisted of the sod and topsoil and the natural layers, with some modern disturbance in the north-west of Trench A. Finds from the trenches included occasional fragments of 20th-century pottery. The proposed development will involve the removal of soil for a depth of 0.45–0.5m and will not affect any archaeological layers.
