Monitoring of the excavation of nine of the house foundations within the proposed development of 21 houses was carried out at Moneyatta Commons, Saggart, during June and July 2001.
The western end of the development was more elevated than that to the east and was better drained, more compact and drier. As a result it was not necessary to excavate the trenches to a depth greater than 1m. The area to the east was waterlogged, with evidence for buried soils including a peat layer overlying a thick marl.
Monitoring of the excavation of the foundation trenches at house numbers 3, 5, 6–8, 11, 12, 18 and 21 did not uncover any archaeological material or features.
