Phase 1a is located immediately west of the Dublin–Lusk road to the south-west of the village of Lusk. The stripping of topsoil was confined to an area measuring approximately 157m north–south by 120m. The topsoil removed was a consistent mid-brown, relatively friable silty clay with moderate medium- to large-sized stone inclusions. It ranged in depth from 0.26m to a maximum of 0.4m. No artefacts, structures or deposits of archaeological significance were uncovered during the monitoring programme.
