The area from which topsoil was stripped comprised all or part of four separate fields and covered an approximate total area of 5.4ha. A total of 23 features along with several field drains were identified. They can be divided into two main types: stake-holes and pits containing burnt material. The former were either isolated or associated with pits and may be associated with relict field divisions. Feature 15 was the only feature with a definite morphology and can be interpreted as a small keyhole furnace. There was no diagnostic material associated with it but its alignment with a nearby field drain means that it need not pre-date modern cultivation of the field. The majority of the features identified did not contain diagnostic artefacts. However, the recovery of a mix of post-medieval and modern pottery sherds from the topsoil is consistent with past agricultural use of this area of the site.
