Test-trenching was carried out at the rear of Loughlinstown Hospital as part of a Development Feasibility Study by Dun Laoghaire–Rathdown County Council. The hospital contains buildings that were formerly part of the Rathdown Poor Law Union. The field between the current hospital’s Orthodontic Unit and the graveyard from the Poor Law building was tested to see if burials had ever extended into that field. A fever hospital is also known to have stood on that portion of the site in the late 19th century and is depicted on the 2nd edition of the Ordnance Survey.

Seven trenches were opened mechanically across the site, which is currently under grass. Burials were not encountered in the area outside the graveyard and none of the trenches revealed any features of archaeological interest.
