An assessment was carried out prior to the upgrade and refurbishment of the Classic Fuel & Oil petrol service station at Mount Brown in Kilmainham. As part of this refurbishment two new underground petrol tanks are to be installed along with a new petrol interceptor and car-wash interceptors.
Three trenches were opened on the west side of the existing station forecourt.
There was no evidence for any significant archaeological deposits or structures within the trenches opened. A gradual inclination in the ground rising from the street frontage to the northern boundary of the garage perimeter has been built up with the introduction of 1.5–1.8m of sand and hard core.
There were no finds retrieved from the trench deposits.
