An archaeological assessment of the site was carried out after demolition of the existing building. This assessment established that the building had no basement and was founded directly on a sticky garden clay deposit, which extended throughout the site. This deposit was approximately 1m in depth and contained 18th-century pottery. No other features or archaeological soils were encountered.
