The refurbishment of the playground at Hill Street included the erection of play units. Six investigative pit-trenches were opened in the precise location areas for the playground structures. The playground is the site of Hill Street Church and Graveyard. The overall stratigraphy of the trenches opened would indicate that the initial 0.6m of ground was severely disturbed, most likely during the removal of the grave-slabs and the laying down of the reinforced concrete slab under the tarmac. There was evidence for re-deposited human bone fragments within the initial 0.6m of brown clay fill. At least two grave-slabs were laid down horizontally, and covered over by the concrete slab. Some redeposited bone fragments were mixed in with the brown clay which lay over the grave-slabs and under the concrete. No in situ articulated human skeletons were located in the trenches opened.
