The development consisted of the expansion and refurbishment of a licensed premises. No. 5 Railway Road is a vacated retail premises, while 1–2 Sorrento Road form a public house, the Sorrento Lounge. Archaeological works began on 20 June. Five test-trenches were opened. Trenches 1 and 2 were excavated to natural and did not produce anything of archaeological significance. Trenches 3, 4 and 5 were excavated to construction depths for the present structures and they too produced nothing of archaeological significance. The stratigraphy that was exposed related to previous construction activity at the site.
