Testing was carried out in this area as a follow-up to extensive geophysical surveying. The purpose was to clarify the nature and the derivation of geophysical anomalies and to establish whether the site has features of archaeological potential. Analysis of the geophysical survey data highlighted locations that would provide clarification and an archaeological assessment of the site took place. In all, sixteen trenches were opened. The trench plan was designed to intercept a number and range of the geophysical anomalies to determine the source of the anomaly and through this process to establish the archaeological potential of the area.
Only two of the trenches revealed material of any archaeological consequence. Only one has material (heat-cracked stones) of definite archaeological derivation, probably a fulacht fiadh. The second may be the result of quite recent tree clearance. Both will require further investigation and excavation.
