Testing was carried out on a proposed development site at the junction of Martins Row and Chapelizod Road in the village of Chapelizod, Co. Dublin, on 9 July 2001. Three trenches were excavated in the footprint of the proposed development, following the long axis of the beam foundations. Excavation of the test-trenches indicated evidence for garden soils to a depth of approximately 0.7m, sealing stone, gravel and sand riverine deposits. The garden soils contained 19th- and 20th-century debris. In Trench 1 a cut into the stony layer was noted. This was sealed by the upper garden soils and produced similarly dated finds.
