The site lay in south Down on the shores of Carlingford Lough. The development was situated on an old raised beach near a motte, SMR 57:1. The site overlooked a sheltered beach and anchorage and was in a direct line between this and the motte. Today to the east of the area are 19th-century Irish Lights cottages. The development area had previously been the gardens of these.

The site was swept with a metal-detector, topsoil-stripped and test-trenched into the beach deposits. Nothing of archaeological significance was uncovered.
