An assessment was carried out on a proposed residential house development site at Ballynafoy Road, Derrydrummuck, Ballinaskeagh, Co. Down, a greenfield site which contained the remains of two small cropmark circles. Six test-trenches were mechanically excavated across the site on 16 July 2001. Excavation of the trenches revealed topsoil directly over the natural boulder clay across the site.
Linear ditch features revealed in Trenches 1 and 2 appear strongly related and, while regular drains were not revealed elsewhere within the field, the nature of the fill of these features suggests a drainage function. Trenches over the western area of the site did not reveal any deposits or features of archaeological potential and the nature of the cropmark rings could not be determined. Owing to the presence of a recorded cropmark in the western part of the site and the absence of any archaeological features to suggest its location, monitoring of proposed groundworks was proposed.
