An intertidal survey was carried out prior to the issuing of licences by the Department of the Marine to construct trestles on which oysters and mussels are to be grown. The survey was carried out at low tide.

Three main areas were assessed, from the Isle of Doagh, near the town of Malin, and Glassagh Point respectively. In all cases the intertidal zone was found to be relatively flat and to consist of a silty sandy mud with varying quantities of small and medium-sized stones with corresponding seaweed coverage.

Trestles were noted along the shore in the vicinity of the area for which the new licences are to be granted. Access routes to the trestles were noted, formed by movement of human traffic out to the trestles.

No features of archaeological significance were identified during the walk-over survey.
