Situated at the northern end of the Inishowen Peninsula and straddling the Donagh River, the village of Carndonagh is best known for its fine examples of Early Christian monuments. Owing to the fact that the proposed development site is within the environs of the Early Christian site and is near two other sites recorded in the RMP, testing was undertaken.
Three open-area test-trenches were machine-excavated, one on each of the three arms of the proposed development. The area opened up, some 500m2, represents some 50% of the development area. Nothing of archaeological significance was noted.
