The IDB propose to develop an area of ground which was used as an airfield during the Second World War. Owing to the presence of this and other sites of archaeological interest in the vicinity, monitoring was recommended. This work took the form of two distinct phases, the first in the area of access to the site from the main Belfast to Derry road, and the second the body of the site proper. The results of the monitoring in both phases indicated that the overburden of dark brown clay loam, on average 0.3m deep, lay directly on a layer of orange-grey clay and silt lacustrine deposits associated with the original northern extent of Lough Neagh. Nothing of archaeological or indeed industrial interest, other than roadways associated with the airfield, was noted.
