Park, which is on a fording-point across the River Faughan, nestles between two opposing bluffs that rise steeply to the north-east towards Straid Hill and to the south-west towards Meeny Hill and Learmount Mountain.
The surrounding landscape is relatively rich in archaeological remains, but only one site is recorded from within the development area: a wedge tomb (SMR 29:1) on a broad south-east-facing slope which falls from the site towards the River Faughan.
The proposed nine-hole golf-course and associated driving-range is designed on such a scale as to involve the minimum of ground disturbance. Each of the tee boxes will be constructed by importing soil into the area, and the fairways will simply involve the maintenance of the existing improved grassland fields. Some work will, however, be involved in the construction of the greens, in the form of remodelling the ground and the insertion of an extensive network of drains.
Preparation of this work was monitored; no archaeological deposits were uncovered.
