Test-trenches were excavated on the footprint of a single house site in Shronebeha, Banteer. Permission was sought to demolish a cottage on the site. The cottage was built c. 50 years ago. It is a three-bay single-storey building with a gabled, slated roof and a lean-to extension to the north.
A ‘Battlefield (1647)’, SMR 40:10, is marked on the 3rd edition 1937 OS map in the area of the proposed development site. A modern bungalow now occupies part of the field. The remainder of the field is regularly ploughed; no earthworks have been noted on this site. The site of a commemorative gallaun, SMR 40:9, is in the field across the road to the west of the site. The standing stone has been removed from the field.
A test-trench was opened on the footprint of the proposed foundations and on the line of the access road. No archaeological stratigraphy or artefacts were recorded.
