The site was originally identified during construction work associated with the N8 Glanmire–Watergrasshill Road Scheme (No. 173 Excavations 2001). It comprised a large deposit of heat-shattered stone and dark soil measuring up to 11m east–west by 4m. While the northern edge of the deposit formed an irregular curve, drainage works had heavily truncated the southern side and it is likely that up to two thirds of the feature were removed by this work. The remaining, northern part of the deposit was up to 0.25m deep and was similar to the typical material associated with fulachta fiadh. While it appears that this site was such a monument, the apparent non-survival of a hearth or trough makes the site difficult to interpret with confidence.
