The site was initially identified during archaeological monitoring of topsoil-stripping on the N8 Glanmire–Watergrasshill Road Scheme. A spread of burnt mound material comprising charcoal-rich peat and burnt stone was identified in low-lying ground approximately 15m east of a small stream. The site presented as the remains of a possible fulacht fiadh.

Excavation revealed the course of a small meandering stream which had been backfilled with burnt mound material. No features associated with the presence of a fulacht fiadh were revealed. The burnt mound material was redeposited into the dried-up watercourse during substantial modern drainage works which were in evidence in the area. The burnt mound material may have originated at a nearby site, AR30 Mitchellsfort, excavated by the author under licence 01E0853 (No. 219 Excavations 2001), at which in situ burnt mound material was revealed.
