The proposed development site lies within the zone of archaeological potential for the medieval town of Mallow. Following the demolition of the buildings on site, four 1m-wide test-trenches were opened by mechanical digger. Loose rubble fill of 19th/20th-century date was found to a depth of 0.4m. This overlay natural orange subsoil. No archaeological finds or features were noted.
