Testing in advance of the construction of the N22 Ballincollig Bypass revealed dark brown/black, charcoal-stained clay with substantial quantities of heat-cracked stone. The surrounding area was stripped of turf and topsoil to reveal the extent of the deposit. The subcircular fulacht deposit had dimensions of c. 6.5m by c. 5.5m with a maximum depth of 0.25m. It sat in a shallow depression. To the south of the main spread were two pits; the first was circular, c. 0.6m in diameter and 0.22m deep, whilst the second was c. 0.6m in diameter and 0.25m deep and had a shallow extension running some 1.6m to the south-east.
