A desk-based survey was undertaken in advance of construction of the N22 Ballincollig Bypass. The survey identified five sites that would or might be affected by the road construction. A decision was made to excavate the endangered areas in advance of the commencement of construction. This site is noted in the Sites and Monuments Record as a fulacht fiadh (SMR 73:65). An area measuring 80m by 20m was stripped but no archaeological features or deposits were identified and no further work was undertaken.
