Monitoring of all ground disturbance works associated with the construction of a health centre was undertaken at Lackabane in compliance with a planning condition. The development site is located to the south of Donoughamore Church and graveyard. The ruined church dates from the late 17th/early 18th century. It has been reported that there is a souterrain near the church and that in the past the parish priest kept a holy relic in the souterrain, identified as the 12th-century shrine of St Lachtin’s Arm, now on display in the National Museum.
Topsoil was removed from the area of the entrance, driveway, parking area and platform for the clinic. No archaeological stratigraphy or artefacts were recorded during monitoring.
