The site was originally identified during monitoring of topsoil-stripping on the N8 Glanmire– Watergrasshill Road Scheme (Excavations 2001, No. 173). It consisted of a number of small bowl furnaces and associated features within an area measuring 12m by 7m. Five probable bowl furnaces were excavated, and these were generally 0.35–0.45m in diameter and up to 0.16m deep, though all showed evidence of heavy truncation. Most of the furnaces showed evidence of clay lining and were filled with charcoal-rich deposits with slag inclusions. An unlined rectangular cut feature, measuring 1m by 0.63m by up to 0.25m deep, was interpreted as a possible forging pit. The site lay 350m north of a single bowl furnace, AR26 (No. 108, Excavations 2001), and 520m south-west of a pair of similar furnaces, AR29 (No. 235, Excavations 2001).
