The site was originally identified during monitoring of topsoil-stripping on the N8 Glanmire–Watergrasshill Road Scheme (see Excavations 2001, No. 173). It consisted of four separate features: a cremation burial and three other features of limited archaeological interest. The cremation burial, heavily truncated by agricultural activity, was found to have been contained within a large inverted urn and was apparently accompanied by a smaller, finely decorated vase. The decorated rim of the large urn was found in situ and was excavated in a stabilised earthen block by Cathy Daly of Arch Con Laboratories. Two pieces of flint were found within the burial deposit, and the fills of two shallow pits were found to each contain a single piece of worked flint. The site lay 210m south of a possible Bronze Age house site (see Excavations 2001, No. 191) and 260m south of a similar cremation burial (see Excavations 2001, No. 192), both of which were excavated during the course of the same project.
