An archaeological assessment was requested as part of the Grant of Planning for a dwelling-house which was within the zone of archaeological potential for a fulacht fiadh. The landowner confirmed that the fulacht fiadh was levelled c. 1985. The assessment was to include testing and monitoring of all ground disturbance.
Five test-trenches were opened on the footprint of the proposed house and driveway. Two trenches in the north-west section of the site contained levelled remains of the fulacht fiadh directly under the topsoil. The dwelling-house was relocated to avoid the fulacht fiadh material and a buffer zone of 2m or more was set up between the house site and the levelled fulacht fiadh. The entrance to the site was also relocated to the east.
