Test-trenching took place at this site as part of an application to construct an electricity substation. There is a fulacht fiadh (SMR 22:44) in the south-west corner of the site, with a total of twelve fulachta fiadh in the townland of Curraduff.
Testing consisted of removing 2m-wide strips of topsod over c. 25% of the site. Removal of topsod along the north-west/south-east axis of a low subcircular mound, c. 13m in diameter and c. 0.15m high, revealed a previously unrecorded fulacht fiadh. The area of burnt material measured 12.8m north-west/south-east by a minimum of 5.4m (the western part of the mound is outside the limits of the proposed development). The exposed material consisted of small burnt stones and soil and was black in the centre of the mound, becoming red-brown in colour towards the limit of the burnt area. The site was not investigated any further. To avoid further disturbance of the fulacht fiadh, relocation of the perimeter fence of the site has been recommended.
Throughout the remainder of the site natural topsoil was present directly beneath the topsoil.
