Testing took place on this vacant site which lies within the zone of archaeological potential for Cork City but is c. 40m to the west of and outside the line of the medieval city wall on the north bank of the south channel of the River Lee.
Two test-trenches were excavated to a depth of 1.5m. Loose rubble fill was noted in both. A layer of cobblestones was found at a depth of 0.5m in one trench which ran north–south. In the lower levels of both trenches the fill was black and organic in content. All the material was consistent with 18th-century fill found in similar locations in the city outside the medieval town wall. No pre-18th-century finds were noted.
