Monitoring of a 15ha greenfield site at Little Island in Cork harbour was carried out prior to the construction of a waste water treatment plant by Cork Corporation. Two shell spreads along the western seashore perimeter of the site were noted. These spreads were tested under licence No. 01E1112 (see Excavations 2001, No. 136). A polished stone axe was recovered during topsoil monitoring and has been given a possible late Mesolithic date. All other finds were random pottery, 18th–20th-century in date.
