This proposed development site at Barnagore, Ovens, was within the zone of archaeological potential for three enclosures. The enclosures were first identified through aerial photography, following some development in the area which may have unknowingly impacted upon them. To assess the archaeological potential of the development site, six test-trenches were mechanically excavated across this greenfield site. A spread of charcoal-flecked clay was revealed in one of the test-trenches. This was investigated by hand and proved to be insubstantial and did not appear to relate to the enclosures revealed on aerial photographs. However, should development proceed, archaeological consultation is recommended.
