Pre-development monitoring at the site of a proposed dwelling-house with septic tank in Poulnagun, Lisdoonvarna, was carried out on 9 October 2001. The proposed development was situated two fields to the east of a barrow site, on the south slope of a hill.
All the areas to be affected by groundworks were monitored. Generally the stratigraphy revealed a dark, loosely compact silt over a dark brown silty clay, below the topsoil. Fifteen sherds of modern pottery and a single pipe bowl fragment were retrieved from the upper layer.
Nothing of archaeological significance was noted.
