The N18/N19 road improvement scheme involves the construction of a new dual carriageway from Ballycasey northwards to Latoon South. A programme of archaeological works was undertaken along the proposed route in advance of construction. This site had previously been identified as an earthworks site, to the north-west of AR42. It was situated on a hill overlooking the Shannon estuary and the area exposed measured approximately 25m east–west by 23m.

The excavation revealed a number of hearths, pits, drainage ditches, spreads, post- and stake-holes from which only a small subcircular formation could be distinguished. Also present was a shallow curvilinear anomaly. Radiocarbon dates of AD 1230–1410 and AD 1430–1530 were obtained from charcoal samples and provided conclusive evidence that the site was late medieval in date.

The majority of this site extended south-westwards outside the road-take and, as it was not under threat from the present development, it was not excavated.
