A period of three weeks was devoted in October 2001 to the re-excavation of the area already searched for parts of the Clonmore shrine (Excavations 2000, No. 26). As in previous years, the soil was stripped mechanically in stages to a maximum depth of c. 0.6m until the pre-dredging field surface was encountered. The soil was searched in both stripping and reinstatement. Half of the hinge of the shrine was recovered, the counterpart of that recovered in 1991. The form is that of a piano hinge, and the hinge of the contemporary Bobbio shrine is comparable. The plates forming the hips of the roof remain unaccounted for. Additional finds included late Mesolithic worked flint and a polished stone axe.
