Monitoring of the area, which is within a zone of archaeological potential marking the centre of the 17th-century town of Belfast, took place before urban development. The existing office buildings had effectively removed much of the earlier evidence. There were slight traces of some earlier red brick buildings, but ceramic evidence suggested a date in the 19th or 20th century for their construction. The most interesting feature of the testing was the discovery towards the rear of the development site of the remains of a bomb crater, dating from the Second World War, which had been backfilled and sealed by the carpark associated with the most recent developments.
