This site was found as part of the work conducted under licence 00E0379 (see Excavations 2000, No. 1068). Topsoil-stripping revealed a site that consisted of three archaeological features. A series of cultivation ridges and furrows, initially believed to have medieval origins, truncated a medieval corn-drying kiln and a possible medieval working surface. The cultivation ridges respected a removed field boundary that cut the edge of the corn-drying kiln. The kiln was keyhole-shaped, with a stone-built, cruciform flue network for even distribution of heat in the bottom of the bowl. The working surface was 50m from the kiln and may have been associated with crop processing (e.g. a winnowing platform). The morphology of the cultivation ridges and furrows suggests a post-medieval date.
