Pre-development testing and monitoring took place for an extension to the Glasson Golf Club. The site is in the zone of archaeological potential of a castle/tower-house, the location of which was previously unknown. Eight test-trenches were excavated by machine to the level of undisturbed natural. No archaeological remains were uncovered. The remains of a redbrick wall were located in one trench and further revealed during monitoring. It consisted of a 2m-long section of wall, 0.5m wide and built of stone and red brick. It is likely that this is the remains of an outbuilding related to the existing Georgian clubhouse, c. 1780. The entire area of the proposed development was then excavated by machine under supervision. No archaeological remains were uncovered.
The potential remains of the castle were found when surveying the existing house. Two internal walls meeting at right angles on the western side of the house were found to each measure over 1m wide. It is likely that the remains of the castle were incorporated into the later, Georgian house.
