Archaeological excavations in advance of the realignment of the N25 near Kilmacthomas, Co. Waterford, uncovered numerous archaeological sites. This crescent-shaped burnt mound, which lies towards the western end of the development, was one of several burnt mound sites encountered during the realignment scheme. The monument was in an area of fill for a new slip road. It was tested to ascertain its extent and evaluate the potential effects of its burial.
A section trench revealed a trough feature to the south of the mound. The trough had been truncated by a later field drain. Further damage was done to the monument in recent times because of land reclamation. A small amount of in situ organic material was recorded.
