The site measures a maximum of 600m east–west x 212m, enclosing an area of just over 10ha. It is situated in the townland of Loughneas, bounded to the south by the Cloghcor and Ballyheather roads and Lough Neas and to the north by an unrelated sand and gravel quarry.
Phase 1 was in a field 210m north–south by 145m, located to the very east of the development. Initial inspection of the field failed to identify any upstanding archaeological features. Monitoring of Phase 1 of topsoil-stripping took place between 11 and 15 September 2000. Nothing of archaeological significance was uncovered during this work.
