Monitoring took place of the excavation of the floor within the Black Mill, a 19th-century mill located on the Moneen River and within a few metres of St Cronan’s round tower. Because of space restrictions and the presence of internal scaffolding, the excavation was carried out by hand. The excavated depth was only 0.3–0.4m. No early archaeological remains were uncovered, although the mill’s original stone-flagged floor was exposed in most places, in addition to a number of other features including drains and machinery supports.
