On 28 April 2000 an area measuring 15m east–west by 30m was stripped by machine to remove the topsoil to establish the full extent of a cobbled pathway. Located between two gates, this pathway ran in a north–south direction across the site and initially would have covered an area of 31.5m north–south by 3m. The pathway represents an old avenue to Richmond House. A linear ditch, which was c. 24m in length and had an average width of 1.5m, lay west of the cobbled pathway.
