Pre-construction archaeological testing was undertaken at Ballykelly, Cashel, Co. Tipperary, pursuant to a request for further information by Tipperary SR County Council regarding the archaeological implications of the proposed construction of a dwelling-house and ancillary site development works. The site of the proposed development is adjacent to a church.
Three test-trenches were opened on the site with the aid of a machine. One trench was located on the site of the proposed dwelling-house; one was on the site of the percolation area; and the final trench was sited on the proposed avenue leading to the house.
No archaeological remains were uncovered. The findings from the testing did confirm trunking material or infill that had been imported to the site in an area that had apparently been used as a quarry at one stage.
