An archaeological assessment was carried out in Abbey Street carpark opposite the 13th-century Holy Cross Dominican friary. Beneath the modern ground surface and modern build-up, layers of redeposited subsoil, containing some disarticulated skeletal material, and several subsoil-cut features were identified. While the features were undeniably of archaeological significance, no artefacts were found that could date them. It is possible, however, that some of the uncovered archaeological remains may relate to the nearby medieval abbey.
